Complaining on the sketchbook page
I caught a cold last weekend and became overdramatic about how bad I felt and how much it slowed my creative productivity.
This journal entry is from my sketchbook, where I work out my concerns and fears in a somewhat creative way. But with plenty of complaining. I wasn’t exactly sure what I had (most likely the common cold), but I lost my taste for food for a day, so I was convinced it was Covid—even though I kept testing negative for it!
I found the quote online to add to my journal entry, which helped me feel better about slowing down. Relax knowing you can take a break but keep your eyes on your goals—even plan for what you'll do when you get back on track.
During my day off to rest, I created this journal entry out of frustration. Then, realized I made something creative I could share with readers.
So, I was productive after all!
What makes this journal entry fun?
Even though I wasn’t enjoying feeling sick, I made the writing and drawing fun by doing a few things:
Using bubble letters to make my main points pop out.
Illustrated a simple cartoon version of myself with expressions based on how I felt in real life.
Breaking up the page into smaller sections to share different points and lists.
Here’s the whole page.
It’s nice to add a bit of limited color, and my go-to’s are a simple mix of warm and cool with red and blue.

I got sick last week, too! Ugh. I love how you processed it through cartoon journaling.
